Anti-Reflective Coating

Fit

The base curve of a lens refers to its curvature, determining how much the frame wraps around your face. A higher base curve means a greater curvature. Wiley X eyewear typically features base curve six or eight, with some models falling between or below these values.

• Base Curve Eight: Offers a high-wrap fit with significant curvature, enclosing your face more closely. This design provides enhanced protection from peripheral light.
• Base Curve Six: Features a moderate wrap fit with a flatter design, sitting closer to your face. This style accommodates a wider range of face shapes and sizes for a comfortable, versatile fit.

Head Size

Choosing the right eyewear can be challenging, but knowing your head size simplifies the process. To determine your head size, measure the circumference of your head using a tape measure. Once you have the measurement, compare it to the sizing chart above.

For example, a head circumference of 58 cm indicates a large head size, meaning you’ll fit all models designed for this range. Many models accommodate multiple sizes, such as M-L, making them suitable for medium and large head sizes alike.

Frame Width

The frame width is the distance between the frame’s ends, including the hinges. For the best fit and aesthetic, the frame width should align closely with the width of your face. A frame that is too wide may appear oversized and could slip, potentially distorting your view. Conversely, a narrow frame may feel tight, pressing on your temples and causing discomfort or headaches.

Bridge Width

The bridge width refers to the distance between the two lenses, where the frame rests on your nose. Correct bridge width is essential for a secure and comfortable fit.

If the bridge is too wide, the eyewear may slide down your nose. If it is too narrow, it can apply excessive pressure, leading to discomfort and pressure points over time.

Temple Length

Temple length, or arm length, plays a key role in ensuring a secure fit. Measured from the hinge screw to the temple tip (including any bends), the length should suit your face. Arms that are too long can cause the eyewear to slide off, while shorter arms may exert pressure on your temples, ears, or nose, resulting in discomfort.

Lens Width

The lens width, also known as eye size, is the horizontal measurement of a single lens from one side to the other, excluding the frame.

Because the lenses determine your field of vision, this is a key measurement for ensuring the frame fits your eyes and face correctly. Lens width is ideal when the lenses are wide enough to match your face without resting on your cheeks.

ANSI Z87.1 Certification

ANSI Z87.1 certification signifies that the frame and lenses meet or exceed the stringent safety standards set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), which establishes guidelines for protective eyewear in the United States. • High-Velocity Impact Test: Frames and lenses must endure the impact of a 6.35 mm steel ball travelling at 164.6 km/h without breaking or shattering.
• High-Mass Impact Test: Eyewear must withstand the drop of a 500-gram pointed projectile from a height of 127 cm while maintaining structural integrity.

Ballistic MIL-PRF-32432A

This eyewear is tested to meet or exceed the MIL-PRF-32432A ballistic standard, the official US military specification for eyewear and goggles. Under this standard, Wiley X frames and lenses are engineered to withstand impact from a .15 calibre projectile travelling at speeds of 768–796 km/h, while goggles are tested to resist a .15 calibre projectile at 636–647 km/h. ISO 12312-1

ISO 12312-1 defines the technical requirements for the design and testing of sun-darkening eyewear intended to protect users from potentially harmful levels of sunlight.

The standard focuses on the safety requirements for sunglasses, including protection from solar radiation during normal wear and while driving.

Technically, the standard sets requirements for:

• Optical properties
• Safety testing
• Product classification
• Instructions for use

For eyewear with specific performance features such as anti-fog, scratch resistance, or mechanical and ballistic protection, products should be tested and certified to those relevant standards in addition to ISO 12312-1.

ISO 12312-1 is one of the recognised standards used to meet the requirements of EU Directive 2016/425, allowing a product to carry the CE marking.
